Chicken Sweater
I have had more people laugh at this, but it wasn't a
joke, it was for a poor hen that had her back feathers pecked off her by
another hen or maybe the male. I would never had known of this
except for the one that told me about it, she made on on her Bond and it
was a little large on the hen but the one I made was a bit snug, so
things like this sometimes we need to measure the person or animal for
their knitted item.
Worked on the Bulky at TD6 with 4 stitches and 7 rows
per inch in stockinet
- Cast on 48 stitches with thin WY and knit a few
rows if you are going to work garter stitch as I did, if you are
going to work up rib on the bottom, then you can start out with your
Main Yarn
- Put needles to HP and latch tool cast on if you
are working garter stitch
- Knit 3 rows of garter stitch
- Make eyelets near the ends, I think I took the
3rd stitch and transferred them to the next needle
- Knit 3 more rows
- Turn work and Bind Off 6 stitches at the
beginning of the next 2 rows
- Now you will reform the 2nd, 3rd and 4th stitch
from the ends to make the garter stitch
- Knit 4 rows
- *Decrease on the ends by moving in the end 5
stitches so that the decrease is on the inside of the garter stitch
- Knit 4 rows*
- Repeat between the *'s but remember to reform or
use your seed stitcher to continue the garter stitch up the sides
- Work until you have about 30 stitches in
work
- Now put half the needles out to HP and set your
carriage to Hold
- Decrease 1 stitch at neck edge every row while
continuing decreasing and reforming on the outside edge until you
can no longer decrease on the outside edge.
- But continue to decrease on the neck edge until
you have 3 stitches left
- Bind off
- Work other side of neck the same
Now for the 2nd piece, you will cast on 36 stitches
and omit the added bands to the bottom but work up the piece the same as
above
Weave in all ends, sew buttons in place and put on
chicken
