Hat with 4 Point Crown with Short Rows

Gauge:  5.5 stitches and 8 rows equals 1 inch at TD4 on the LK150 knitting machine

Size for a small child

Cast on 87 stitches and Knit 12 rows, reform to rib of your choice

Increase 1 stitch to make 88 total stitches

Knit 40 rows

Keep first 22 needles to Work Position and put the rest to Hold Position, set carriage to Hold

Short row 1 stitch the beginning of each row until you have 2 stitches in work

Now put left needles of last 2 in work from HP to FWP as well as the next 22 needles

Knit to the left

Put the first section of 22 needles to HP

Repeat the short rows as per the first section and then for the following 2 sections

At the end, put the left needles from HP to FWP to get the carriage on the left

Now I put my TD up to 9 and knit 1 row across and then latch tool bind off

Sew the back seam and then go across one seam on the crown, weave in yarn tail or tie a small knot

Sew across other seam on the crown and also weave in that yarn tail

Hat with 4 Point Crown Decreasing

Now I also show decreasing the crown instead of the short rows, I do prefer this seam better but then I have more yarn tails to hide.  (Or you can do a S.A.Y.G starting with the 2nd section to the first)

To do the decrease, when at the crown, just decrease 1 stitch each end of one section every other row until you have 2 or 4 stitches left, bind off

Do next section the same as well as the other 3 sections

Weave in all yarn tails or tie small knots

Add a pompom if you desire

Full Fashioned Decrease Hat (another way to do the 4 point hat crown)

So this one I started out with 100 stitches, this was worked up on the LK150 with 3 strands of 2/24 yarn

I worked up 12 rows, transferred every other stitch over to the next for the picot hem

Knitted up another 12 rows and hung first row to close hem

Then I knitted up 30 rows

100 stitches divided by 5 equals 20, then 20 divided in half equals 10

Next I started counting from the right, pulled out needles R13 and R11, from there counted down 20 needles, pulled out the next needle, counted 2, pulled out the next needle.  I did mark the yarn going between the 2 needles for reference on the following decreases, but I do notice that I goofed on the right most transfer, but no big deal

I did end up with 14 stitches on the left and just left it at that, I could have moved each needle back and pull out the next one so that it would be the same amount of stitches on the ends

I took the stitches off the needles pulled out to HP and transferred them to the left or right so that the 2 needles between the needles pulled out has 2 stitches on them

Then I transferred the stitches inwards so that there were no empty needles

Knit 2 rows

Continue decreasing and knitting 2 rows until I had 21 stitches left

Then I did a transfer every other stitch to the next needle

I could have just left those there and knitted one last row but I did transfer them inwards so no empty needles

Cut the yarn leaving enough for a gathering bind off and sewing down the seam hiding the yarn tails in the folded picot hem.  And your done
