Hunters Hat

  1. CO 80 stitches
  2. Knit WY and a row of ravel cord
  3. Knit 12 rows of the MY (half of the folded brim) stop counter action
  4. Back Extension worked in short rows
  5. Knit half of it on the right side of the machine
  6. Center 20 stitches will be the front of the hat
  7. So push all needles from R10 all the way to the Left to HP
  8. Knit across, take cast on comb off and put weights on the work area
  9. *Put last needle that was knitted out to HP (auto wrap)
  10. Knit 2 rows*, repeat from * to * until 10 stitches are left in work
  11. **Work Reverse Short Rows until you are back to the beginning of the stitches that were worked in short rows into WP** (R11 to R40 in work)
  12. So opposite the carriage, push back 2 needles from HP to FWP, knit across, put the last needle knitted back to HP, again auto wrapping
  13. Now take left side carriage off of hold, knit across and work the other side reversing the shaping of the short rows
  14. This will be L10 to R40 put in HP, remember to put your carriage back to hold
  15. Repeat above from * to * again
  16. Repeat the Reverse Short Rows again from ** to ** (L11 to L40)
  17. Add 2 rows to RC (14)
  18. Hang Cast on Comb again if needed and knit 14 rows, remove comb
  19. Hang the first row of MC onto the needles so that it will close the folded hem
  20. Now I put the counter back to 14 so that I know how many rows from the bottom of the folded hem I am.
  21. Hang the Cast on Comb again
  22. I knitted 30 rows, now to start the crown decreasing
  23. Starting from the right, I move the 8th needle forward and then after that I move every 9th needle forward.
  24. So now I move those stitches from those needles to the left and put back the empty needle to NWP, so I know what needle has no stitch on it.
  25. Then I start from the side section and move all stitches inwards so that there will not be any empty needles.
  26. Next I knit 2 rows.
  27. Then I will move the 7th needle from the right out and then from there every 8th needle out so that I know what stitches are to be transferred over for the decrease
  28. Knit 2 rows
  29. Repeat the decrease until you have about 20 stitches left
  30. Decrease in half
  31. Knit 1 row
  32. Gather bind off and sew the back seam
