By using a Tuck Stitch, you can make a beret
Child (Adult)
Done on the Bulky Knitting Machine, TD4 for rib, TD6 for hat in tuck
Cast on 60 (74) stitches
Knit 12 rows and reform to rib of your choice, I did a 2x1 rib for less reforming. You can use your ribber for this part but when done, transfer the stitches over to the knitter and drop ribber down
Set card in reader, knit across in Stockinet to set drums for the Singer type machines
Set card in reader, knit across in Stockinet for the Brother type machines, set knob to KC and knit back to set up stitches for tuck
For the Singer type machines, you can start right in with the tuck stitch after setting up drums
Knit 50 (55) rows of tuck
Knit 1 row of Stockinet
Transfer Every Other Stitch over to the next needle for a decrease in half
Knit 3 rows
Gather bind off, fold material in half and running stitch the back seam
Now place a plate inside the hat upside down
Then a bowl to hold the rib up
Steam the top and bottom of the hat but also make sure to do the outer part of the hat to set it as the beret style
This is the tuck stitch I used in the green hat above
Here is the same hat done with the #2 card that would normally make the Bubble Stitch Hat
This is the #2 Card for the Singer Bulky machines for the above beret
Here is one I made on the KH585, doing EON one row, then the opposite EON the next row, same as the #1 cards for most punch card machines. I doubled up the stitches and rows pretty much for this beret
