If you have any of the Brother Standard gauge machines and a Garter Carriage, you can set it up to do the Illusion Knitting and let it run while your doing something else.
But for the rest of us, we need to Knit 2 rows of one color and manually reform some of the stitches.
When your looking at the fabric on the machine, you are looking at the back side of it, so you need to think of the reverse side as your reforming.
The first row of each color is Knit on the opposite side, then the 2nd row has the reforms to create the ridge of the garter stitch by reforming as I show in the video.
Here are some charts that you can use but hope that you can even understand on how to make your own charts.
Here is a heart chart. Click on the images to get the full size charts to print out.
Now to get it to work out for Illusion, you need to add rows to it.
When you look at the first 4 rows, the 2nd color is the opposite boxes from the 1st color. One can use a Seed Stitcher (double ended latch tool) to work some of the rows from the back instead of reforming many from the side facing you.
Here are the 2 charts that are in my video.
Then here is one more, I have it sideways and would look nice on a washcloth.
