Most times you will take the one needle on the side of the carriage from Work to Hold (HP), this will wrap the yarn around the needle to close any holes that could happen.
If you want a lacy effect, then you would push the end needle opposite the carriage from Work (WP) to HP until you are done with the Short Rows (SR)
To Reverse Short Row (RSR), you will then put the needles from HP to Forward Work Position (FWP) so that it will knit that stitch.
To do the RSR auto wrap, opposite the carriage, you will bring one more needle than it calls for from HP to FWP, knit one row and then take the last needle that was knitted back to HP.
The other way would be to put needles opposite the carriage from HP to FWP and knit across but not put the last needle of the stitch knitted back to HP
